With the fuel prices getting higher each day, many pro-environment cities especially in the NCR area had been introducing and using on their places this eco-friendly E-trike. It was creating a big wave in the whole country because it does not only help our environment but also creating a more sustainable living for the benefits of the people.
On January 18, 2012, Depart of Energy, (DOE) launches “Bright Now! Do Right. Be Bright. Go E-trike!” design-an-electric tricycle contest to promote the innovation and ingenuity of the Filipinos in creating the Philippine version of the green vehicle.
The contest was designed to create an awareness and Secretary of Energy Jose Rene D. Almendras hopes that this electric tricycles be promoted as a “rural electric vehicle” or “RUV” because in many provinces tricycle is the mode of transportation. As to date, 20 e-Trike units have been running in the the city of Mandaluyong under the e-Trike Project of ADB and DOE since January. The electric tricycle (e-trike) is a specially designed, highly efficient tricycle that runs on a battery-powered motor that is rechargeable.
Naga City is one of the cities wherein tricycle was the major mode of transportation. The local government were making its own studies on how this eco-friendly e-trike can help the local drivers. If this project will pursue, it would be a great alternative on eliminating air pollution. My only one concern is the safety of the driver and passenger, considering that this e-trike was very open, possible risk could occur especially if your passenger are younger children . I wonder if they could make even a small door? What do you think?
