We always wanted a fresh , pleasant smelling home but many plug-in fragrance and spray do contain harmful ingredients that are not good for us especially if you have little children.
A home smelling like a fresh garden because of the air freshener we bought might actually be endangering us causing possible allergic reactions, lung problems and sometimes asthma attack. Chemicals like Benzylacetate, Benzyl Alcohol, Naphthalene among others that are found on fragrance and spray freshener has long associated to bring different problems to the human system, cancer, respiratory failure, asthma attack, nausea, to name a few.
The wonderful aroma is good to imagine but knowing what harmful effects in can bring to our family is totally a different story and being a green mom, we don’t want to expose our baby on this harmful chemicals.
There are many ways to go natural and the answer might be already in our kitchen cupboard.
Diluted white vinegar – removes bad odor in the air and a very good cleaning product and a natural remedy to kill ants.
Baking soda – I have heard that it works magic. It’s a reliable odor neutralizer and a perfect cleaning solution. Placed them inside your cupboard and refrigerator.
Essential oils – essential oils produce a pleasant oil. You can burn them in an aromatherapy diffuser. It is not just produce good smell but also create a healing feeling.
Potpourri – home made or straight from the mall, potpourri is always my favorite. Vanilla, lemon, lavender, or almond are one of the fragrance i love most.
But if you are a busy person and you had no chance to make your own eco-friendly air freshener, you can always opt to buy organic air freshener in the market. There are eco-friendly products that you can choose from, one of this product is the California Scents which offers organic air freshener. They uses fiber pads or Spillproof product which are made from recycled plant refuse and non toxic fragrance oils, this is their contribution to waste reductions in the production process and allows the pads to degrade naturally reducing waste in the environment.
It is always our desire to create a natural and eco-friendly home and I hope this green living ideas can help you and remember fresh air is still the best for our house, open that window once in a while so that the air can circulate around your home.

/ January 30, 2012That vinegar and baking soda are actually very effective! This is such a very informative share! I just fried some tuyo this morning and I had to use a lot of air freshener to remove the bad odor away. The vinegar and baking soda works very well in neutralizing the odor.
Visiting for today’s BPC!
