Tips for Calming an Anxious Dog

Much like people, dogs also react to stressful situations. When a dog is anxious, they show this through their behavior in various ways; some will withdraw, become shy and hide away whilst others will become clingier and in need of your attention. However, unlike humans, dogs are unable to simply tell you that they’re feeling anxious and what you can do to help them, so it’s important to know the signs by paying attention to the physical and behavior cues that they give you. #1. Cuddling and Stroking:

Just like humans, for many dogs, physical contact is a good way to help relieve anxiety, stress and fear. Just like a big hug from a loved one may help you to feel calmer and safer in a stressful situation, the same may work for a dog who trusts you. Dogs are immensely loyal and tend to feel much more secure and calmer when their beloved human is close by. If they are feeling anxious due to being in physical pain, for example, then simply being near to them can help relieve this. Petting and cuddling your dog to show them some love will help take away some of the stress and anxiety.
